The Open comes to town

The Open was born in 1860, at Prestwick Golf Club, It was seen as an entertainment for the members after their Autumn. No prize money but the honour of custody the Champions Belt for a year, this was watched by a few members in October. Move forward 150 years and massive prize money, The historic Claret Jug and watched by 250,0000 people in July ( including the Match of Champions on the 14th July) but tens of millions through TV coverage.

The picture shows the spectator along the 1st fairway, every hole has one providing over 20,000 seats. Through all of this construction plays continues as normal.
